Track : WOULD I LIE TO YOU?
(From Album 'Be Yourself Tonight')Sporting a new blonde hair-do and an attitude to boot, Annie launches into the Eurythmics' fourth album with first track 'Would I Lie To You'. The video is almost cinematic with a spoken beginning seeing the band preparing backstage for a show while Annie arrives late after an argument with her partner.
With little time to prepare, Annie launches herself on to the stage with a confident display and natural flair for the camera. The track is a very rocky number and like the majority of the tracks on the album, is quite commercial.
At the times, critics argued that Annie and Dave had sold themselves and reinvented their act to fit into the mainstream pop scene but as later albums proved, Eurythmics were far from doing this.
With the words 'No Deception / Now I'm Leaving You' screaches Annie, it's clear that she's had enough of the supposed lies she's telling. Later in the song she pushes away her partner and with strength in her voice succeeds admirably.
