It's hard to imagine who Jennifer actually is, but Annie reminds us constantly of her appearance with lyrics that hardly change throughout the track. It's as if she's a lost parent/friend or guardian who is recounting the features of a lost loved one.

The accompanying sounds are quite sinister and disturbing as Annie mutters 'Jennifer with your orange hair / green eyes / dress of deepest purple' before asking, 'Where are you tonight?'. The final lines reveal that she is probably dead as Annie reveals that (Jennifer) is 'Underneath the water/underneath the water' and the likely conclusion is that she has drowned.
