Track : BEETHOVEN (I LOVE TO LISTEN TO)
(From Album 'Savage')

The intriguing sounds of 'Beethoven' begin the Eurythmics' sixth venture into 'longplay' with 'Savage'. It's a sign of things to come with experimental sounds and remains a favourite with fans.'Beethoven' is a curious blend of chilling beats and high shrieks and low pitched (often spoken) vocals.

The video is equally intriguing which sees Annie as a bored housewife looking for something better out of life. The lyrics reveal an air of excitement and daring as the plain 'wife' speaks of her true intentions - 'Did I tell you I was lying by the way when I said I wanted a new mink coat. I was just thinking about something sleek to wrap around my tender throat'. This disturbing dramatisation is superbly acted by Lennox and directed by Sophie Muller.

This is infact the first song and video of three that connect in terms of content and style - the others being 'I Need A Man' and 'You Have Placed a Chill in my heart' giving the album in general some continuity.

The talents of Sophie Muller are employed to great effect in an accompaning video album and the Eurythmics are obviously impressed as Sophie directs subsequent videos on their follow up album 'We Too Are One' and even 'Diva'.
